Some goods are exempt from sales tax. But, the list varies state to state. Always check .

1.groceries,

2.clothing

3. Text books & religious books,

4. Prescription & non-prescription medicines,

5.supplements,

6.magazines & subscriptions ,

7. Digital products such as e-books, music and movies etc

Please note this list varies state to state. States may set lower limit or upper limits for value of transaction, or certain goods on this list may not be exempt from sales tax in that state. Therefore, caution is advised.
